Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, a must-see Sanctuary

The Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary is to the northwestern of the Nilgiri Hills. It is 150 km to the northwest of Coimbatore city, Tamil Nadu. The Mudumalai Sanctuary is a significant wildlife habitat and enjoys the advantage of strategic position between protected areas making it the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserves essential point. To the north is the Bandipur and Nagarhole National Parks and to its west is the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, while along the south is Silent Valley National Park and Mukurthi National Park.

Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary has around 48 tigers and so is also known as Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. It conserves the dwindling Tiger populations. This area is well protected and is also an ideal home for vulnerable and endangered species including Indian elephant, Indian Leopard, Gaur and Bengal Tiger. High diversity in the animal life can be found in the sanctuary featuring 50 species of fishes, 34 species of reptiles, 21 species of amphibians, 55 species of mammals and 227 species of birds. Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary has endangered White rumped Indian Vulture and long billed vulture as well, besides other species of birds.

 

Attractions in Mudumalai include:

Moyar River, an ideal place to cite animals coming to drink water.

Elephant Feeding Camp – This place shows how elephants are fed. The elephants are engaged in patrolling anti poaching operations, Eco-tourism and can be visited.

Madumalai Museum is a perfect location having some animals that once lived in this Mudumalai Jungle and are preserved.

Kallatty falls offers a magnificent view for leisure treatments.

Pykara Lake, a scenic lake to enjoy boating and annual summer boat race.

Mudumalai Excursions

The Madumalai Excursions also includes visiting Bandipur National Park for its tiger species, Wayanad Sanctuary protecting elephants, exhibits endangered and rare species of fauna and flora. Masinagudi offers open top jeeps for night safaris with expert guides.

Safaris offered are:

1) Jungle Safari for 2 hrs- 02 times a day

2) Road Safari for 2 hrs- 02 times a day

3) Elephant Safari for 40 minutes only at morning time

Safari Timing – 06 to 08:00 AM and 04 to 6:00 PM.
